A collection of poetry by Theodore Roethke, with a supplement pamphlet of collected poems of the Poetry Book Society. Both volumes are first editions. This edition of Words for the Wind preceded the first American edition by one year. Theodore Roethke (May 25, 1908 August 1, 1963) was an American poet, who published several volumes of poetry characterised by its rhythm, rhyming, and natural imagery. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1954 for his book, The Waking, and he won the annual National Book Award for Poetry twice, in 1959 for this work, Words for the Wind, and posthumously in 1965 for The Far Field. The supplement volume contains poetry by the likes of Ted Hughes, W. H. Auden and Anne Ridler, as well as Theodore Roethke.
