Trade paperback. Condición: Very good. Kristin Visser (Photographer for most images) Ilustrador. xiv, 258 pages. Illustrations. Includes Introduction, Foreword, Acknowledgments. Glossary, and Index, as well as a listing for further reading. Prairie School is a late 19th- and early 20th-century architectural style, most common in the Midwestern United States. The style is usually marked by horizontal lines, flat or hipped roofs with broad overhanging eaves, windows grouped in horizontal bands, integration with the landscape, craftsmanship, and discipline in the use of ornament. Horizontal lines were thought to evoke and relate to the wide, flat, treeless expanses of America's prairie landscape. The Prairie School was an attempt at developing an indigenous North American style of architecture in symphony with the ideals and design aesthetics of the Arts and Crafts Movement, with which it shared an embrace of handcrafting and craftsman guilds as an antidote to the dehumanizing effects of mass production. Contains a summary of Frank Lloyd Wright's career, The Prairie School, a chapter on other major Prairie Architects in Wisconsin, including Louis Sullivan, William Purcell, George Feick, Jr., and George Elmslie, George Maher, Robert Spencer, Jr., Louis Claude and Edward Starck, Percy Dwight Bentley, Russell Barr Williamson, Racine, Milwaukee and Vicinity, Two Rivers, Oshkosh, Beaver Dam, Columbus, Jefferson, Delavan, Madison and vicinity, Evansville, Wisconsin Dells and Vicinity, Baraboo, Reedsburg, Spring Green, Richland Center, Lancaster, La Crosse, Fountain City, Tomah, Eau Claire, Barron, Spooner, Stevens Point, Wausau, Merrill, and Rhinelander. Also includes a listing of the Wright buildings open to the Public, a Chronological Listing of Buildings by Architect, a Glossary, a listing of further reading on Frank Lloyd Wright, and an index. Prairie School is a late 19th- and early 20th-century architectural style, most common in the Midwestern United States. The style is usually marked by horizontal lines, flat or hipped roofs with broad overhanging eaves, windows grouped in horizontal bands, integration with the landscape, solid construction, craftsmanship, and discipline in the use of ornament. Horizontal lines were thought to evoke and relate to the wide, flat, treeless expanses of America's native prairie landscape. The term Prairie School was not actually used by practitioners of the style. Architect Marion Mahony, for example, preferred the phrase The Chicago Group. Its term was coined by H. Allen Brooks, one of the first architectural historians to write extensively about the movement and its work. Second Edition (Revised), First Printing.

Librería: Seacoast Books, Portsmouth, NH, Estados Unidos de America
Hardcover. Condición: Near Fine. 8.5" x 8.5". Very scarce HARDCOVER printing of the First Edition in NEAR FINE condition with just a bit of bumping and spine lean; dustjacket in Very Good Plus (VG+) condition with some slight rubbing and minor imperfections to the paper edges. High-quality photographs throughout. Overlooking Mirror Lake in Wisconsin, the small yet beautiful Seth Peterson Cottage is built from red sandstone and other local materials. Probably the best feature of the cottage is the view through the living room windows: the room has floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides making it feel like you're living amongst the trees. Truly a Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece.
