Original red cloth with some rubbing, soiling, and staining; front board decorated with gilt and black stamping; spine cocked with some scuffing/fraying at ends but with its gilt stamping still fairly bright; slender wear at board corners. Marbled text block edges mildly faded; faint stain at lower fore-edge. Floral patterned olive colored endpapers. Occasional foxing and scattered light soiling to interior leaves. Binding stressed between frontispiece and title page but otherwise firm. Still an attractive copy. Preface by Chas. A Gaskell [Charles Arithem Gaskell]; unpaged b/w plates with tissue guard sheets (includes unmarked "Presented To" plates preceding frontis); Index; separately paged concluding three leaf section with promotional blurbs regarding book.
