Spine rather worn & cracked. Some foxing but a good copy. A good regional guide to the far north of England, from Yorkshire to the Scottish Borders, with plenty of angling anecdotes and a couple of angling songs thrown in for good measure. "Here is a wee bit bookie, written by a true angler; and we are only sorry that it is but a wee bit bookie, for it is inspired with the right spirit, and have find a place in every library shelf." (Contemporary review). "In the appendix the author gives a well-written review of the older angling literature." (Westwood & Satchell). Stephen Oliver the Younger was the pen-name of William Andrew Chatto. .

Sm. 8vo., First and Sole Edition, with engraved title-vignette and woodcut head- and tail-pieces throughout, front free endpaper and title lightly spotted; original patterned cloth; gilt back, uncut, backstrip chipped (not affecting lettering) at head and tail, joints lightly rubbed with two or three small losses of cloth, else a remarkably bright, crisp, clean copy in wholly unrestored contemporary binding. With the nineteenth century trade ticket of Combe of Leicester on front paste-down. 'Stephen Oliver the Younger' (so titled) is the pseudonym of William Andrew Chatto. A minor angling classic, this work contains two sings, 'The Angler's Call' and 'The Angler's Invitation', which were afterwards included in the 'Newcastle Fishers' Garlands'. In the appendix the author gives a well-written review of the older angling literature frequently quoted by Westwood & Stachell. Westwood & Satchell, p.162.
