"When Michael Moorcock began chronicling the adventures of the albino sorcerer Elric, last king of decadent Melniboné, & his sentient vampiric sword, Stormbringer, he set out to create a new kind of fantasy adventure, one that broke with tradition & reflected a more up-to-date sophistication of theme & style. The result was a bold and unique hero 'weak in body, subtle in mind, dependent on drugs for the vitality to sustain himself' with great crimes behind him & a greater destiny ahead: a rock-and-roll antihero who would channel all the violent excesses of the sixties into one enduring archetype." Hardcover. Condición: Very good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very good. Fred Lynch (Front jacket illustration) and Michael Ilustrador. Presumed First Edition, First printing. [6], 307, [7] pages. Signed by the author on the title page. DJ is price clipped. Ribbon page marker. Edward Kelsey Moore is a professional cellist and author from Chicago. During his high school years, and onward into college, Edward Kelsey Moore experimented with writing short stories. As he finished his education he set writing aside and focused on building a career in music. Many years later, as a member of a string quartet, Edward was hired to perform at a reception for the winners of a local writing contest. As he played background music Edward considered: "I could have sent in a story." It was an inspiring event and within a few weeks Edward Kelsey Moore began writing again. His short fiction has been published in many literary magazines including: Indiana Review, African American Review, and Inkwell. His short story Grandma and the Elusive Fifth Crucifix was selected as an audience favorite from the Stories on Stage series produced by WBEZ in Chicago. It was broadcast locally, and over National Public Radio. The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat is Edward Kelsey Moore's debut novel. Meet Odette, Clarice, and Barbara Jean in the New York Times best-selling novel. Earl's All-You-Can-Eat is home away from home for this inseparable Plainview, Indiana, trio. Dubbed the Supremes by high school pals in the tumultuous 1960s, they weather life's storms together for the next four decades. Now, during their most challenging year yet, dutiful, proud, and talented Clarice must struggle to keep up appearances as she deals with her husband's humiliating infidelities. Beautiful, fragile Barbara Jean is rocked by the tragic reverberations of a youthful love affair. And fearless Odette engages in the most terrifying battle of her life while contending with the idea that she has inherited more than her broad frame from her notorious pot-smoking mother, Dora. Through marriage, children, happiness, and the blues, these strong, funny women gather each Sunday at the same table at Earl's diner for delicious food, juicy gossip, occasional tears, and uproarious banter. With wit and love, style and sublime talent, Edward Kelsey Moore brings together four intertwined love stories, three devoted allies, and two sprightly earthbound spirits in a big-hearted debut novel that embraces the lives of people you will never forget. Derived from a Kirkus review: Well, not Florence, Mary and Diana, but rather three close friends from Plainview, Ind., who, from their adolescence to their maturity, meet to gossip and consolidate their friendship at a local eatery. Odette, Clarice and Barbara Jean have been inseparable since the late 1960s, when they met in high school. Although Barbara Jean was at first an outsider, she quickly bonded with the other two, and they began calling themselvesâ"and being called by othersâ"the Supremes. The novel opens some 40 years after their salad days, when Odette hears of the death of Big Earl, founder of the eponymous black-owned-and-operated restaurant. Through both Odette's narrative and a more neutral third-person perspective, we learn of the trio's personal problems and the rise and fall of their relationships. Odette, for example, is married to the patient and long-suffering James, and recently, she's discovered she has cancer. Clarice has long been married to Richmond, a charming cad who's serially and terminally unfaithfulâ"and she needs to decide whether to leave him or not. And Barbara Jean, who married her husband, 42-year-old Lester, the day after she graduated from high school, is now dealing with his death and confronting the alcoholism that struck unforgivingly with the earlier death of her young son. Throughout the Supremes' intertwined stories is one constantâ"meeting and eating at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat, now run by his son Little Earl, a place where relationships are forged, scandals are aired and copious amounts of chicken are consumed. A novel of strong women, evocative memories and deep friendship.

"The tripartite catalogue Sonskeek [sp] ''72 arose from the notes and photos we made of a project that we executed during the period November ''71 - June ''72. What was the starting point of the project? Of all the Sonsbeek exhibitions in ''49- ''52- ''55- ''59 and ''66 one could or one can find back all the sculptures; although not in the original place, in the park, they are to be seen somewhere. Yet the transiency of the projects and objects as exposed during the manifestation ''Sonsbeek buiten de perken'' for us was a reason to trace back what happened to these projects and objects. Doing this we considered ourselves as visitors who came after the closing of the manifestation. We visited the original place of the object/project, made photographs and described it and did so with the present place as well. E.g. from the gigantic wedge by Ronald Bladen at the place in park Sonsbeek hardly anything could be found, except a slight difference in colour of the pavement. The wedge itself we discovered in pieces against the wall of a shed of a firm in Arnhem. Most of the projects and objects we also found back in totally different state: at rubbish dumps, on heaps of scrap- iron, dismantled and packed in boxes, in peoples homes on the cupboard. In some cases nothing was to be found back. We sent a stencil to the 35 filmmakers asking them to send a photo and a description of the present place of their films. Description and photo were their part in our project, the original place always being the place at the lawn where in a tent the films have been shown, during the manifestation. From some filmers we didn?t get an answer within a certain period, then the second card is dropped out. Some artists played a part by the publication they got in one of both Sonsbeek cataloques. When their project had a relation with a location, we visited it and made a photo, if not, we reproduced the concerning pages out of the cataloques. The definite form of the three booklets as they now appear, is the result of collecting and combining the 360 cards on one side a photo, on the other side the description. We thank everyone who helped us to realize this project." -- Paul Bonger and Rick Vermeulen from book''s English introduction. Good. Curl to bottom right quadrant of the three volumes. Rubbing, scratching and light edge wear to covers. Volume 1 has 6.2 cm., 1 cm. and 1 mm. areas of surface tearing to verso. Volume 2 has 10 cm. area of surface tearing to recto. Contents of all volumes are clean and unmarked.

Good. Rubbing, scratching and light edge wear to covers and soiling to text block edges. Volume 1 has bumping of upper right corner extending to first three pages; Volume 2 has 10.5 cm. dog-ear to lower right corner and 2.7 cm. dog-ear to verso corner; volume three has 2.5 cm. area of numeric embossment and bumping of bottom right corner. Contents of all volumes are otherwise clean and unmarked.
