Paperback. Condición: Very Good+. Illustrated by George Cruikshank Ilustrador. First Edition Thus. B&W Illustrations; 7.80 X 5.12 X 1 inches; 36 pages; Soft cover has red spine with white lettering. Light rubbing, scuffing, bumping and sunning to covers. Previous owner's name neatly stamped onto half title page. Pages are clean and tight. Illustrated with b/w pictures. Illustrated by George Cruikshank. This is a reprint of a London edition from 1873. 'Punch and Judy is a traditional, popular puppet show featuring the characters of Mr. Punch and his wife, Judy. The performance consists of a sequence of short scenes, each depicting an interaction between two characters, most typically the anarchic Punch and one other character. It is often associated with traditional English seaside culture. The Punch and Judy show has roots in the 16th-century Italian commedia dell'arte. The figure of Punch derives from the Neapolitan stock character of Pulcinella or Punchinello. He is a manifestation of the Lord of Misrule and Trickster figures of deep-rooted mythologies'.
