Hardcover. Condición: Fair. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fair. 1st Edition. First published in October 1958, this is a second impression of November 1958. Ex library with usual stamps and defects, also private owner's bookplate to ffep. Jascket sadly quite tatty but mostly complete. Edge wear, chipping and creasing to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners rubbed with small loss, back flap clipped in half, not price clipped (30s), some browning to page fore edges, but internally clean and square, overall a vg+ reading copy. 558pp. Adolph August Hoehling (1914-2004), was an editor, journalist, and military historian. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Although this was first published in 1958 it remains one of the best one volume books about the battle of Atlanta. Many excellent books have been written about the military campaign but this book is more about the people of Atlanta & how they lived on a daily basis. Men, women, & children had to dodge Gen. Sherman's cannon shells while they walked through the city. Thousands of wounded Confederate soldiers filled Atlanta's buildings, & the stench of death was everywhere. Yet the people of Atlanta kept hoping for a Confederate victory. In their eyes Gen. Sherman was the devil himself. This book tells the story of the battle for Atlanta through the words of those who lived it. It's packed with eyewitness accounts from both soldiers & civilians as well as newspaper accounts (although these are not very reliable). For Civil War buffs or for someone who just watched "Gone With the Wind" & wants to learn more this book is a must have! (Amazon Review).

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Jacket by Curl Ilustrador. 1st Edition. First UK edition, first impression. Some edge wear and chipping to top and bottom of jacket, some rubbing and small loss to top and bottom of spine, corners and folds rubbed, slight lean, some slight offsetting to endpapers, some slight dust staining to back jacket. Not price clipped (16/-), no inscriptions, internally clean and tight, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 184pp. An authoritative account of the sinking, on May 7th 1915 of the Cunard liner Lusitania. Nearing the end of her voyage from New York, the passenger liner was torpedoed and sunk by a German U boat, U-20, causing the deaths of 1198 passengers and crew. 128 American passengers were lost, and the outrage felt in the US was a contributing factor in the American decision to join the Allies two years later in 1917. Adolph August Hoehling (1914-2004), was a writer and military historian and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. It was his experience as a lieutenant commander of the Armed Guard on merchant vessels that provided inspiration for his books on naval history and subsequent memoirs.
