The modern era encompasses World War I and II, Vietnam, the Falklands and the Gulf War.

Richard Russell Lawrence has worked in the field of art and design for over twenty years. He read History and Art History at university and has co-authored two previous books - The Period House and The Illustrated Companion to Nelson's Navy. He lives in London.
