For Charolette Erica Atwell, education was an important part of a child’s life. School was a place where learning was a key fundamental in the process of educational achievement. We didn’t have a choice but to go and learn to the best of our ability. We also had a lot of fun playing soccer, cricket, track and field, swimming, and tree climbing. The beauty of the whole family being in one small house sharing and caring with absolutely no animosity in terms of just being there for each other and sharing everything was just amazing. We rose from our slumber early in the morning to start our chores, whether to get water to fill the drums or taking the cattle out to the fields. At that early age, we were taught the value of work ethics with regards to doing the simple things that were required of us. It was a wonderful time just doing the things that normal kids do.
