The paintings in this book are the images that come to my mind when I sing "America the Beautiful." I think about all the beautiful places I have visited in my travels across the United States: I think about the poem's timeless message, and how it reminds me of America's history and those who have contributed to America's greatness. It is my sincerest wish that Katharine Lee Bates's words and my paintings will serve as a reminder to children and parents of America's gifts.
